A couple who got engaged in front of a crowd in an Iranian shopping centre have been arrested for “outraging public decency”.
Footage of the proposal in the city of Arak was posted on social media.
A police official told the Fars news agency they had been detained and later released on bail.
The video showed the couple standing amid rose petals in a heart shape on the floor.
Following the proposal the woman hugged the man as the crowd cheered.
Mahmoud Khalaji, deputy commander of police in the province of Markazi province, told Fars they had “outraged public decency, which is an influence of the degenerate Western culture”.
