The outrageous article accused David Davis and his team of being completely out of their depth when dealing with the EU’s negotiatior Michel Barnier, as highlighted by a now infamous photo of the two sides at the negotiating table.
The article said: “‘A picture says more than a thousand words’ is a common saying. There is this photo of the Brexit negotiations in Brussels, which seems to confirm this wisdom.
“Shown are Barnier and his British counterpart, Brexit Minister David Davis. Both have two confidantes by their side. Barnier and his co-workers have a stack of files in front of them – the trio around Davis has just a single thin notebook with a black cover.
In a scathing attack, the article added: “It reinforced the impression that the British are completely clueless.”
The piece also claimed Britain was searching for a way to cancel Brexit and remain in the union.
“May recently experienced how difficult it is to negotiate ‘fantastic deals’ with other countries, like Japan, which had always warned the British against leaving the EU.”
Despite claims to the contrary by sources close to negotiations, the TV channel also claimed the EU was uniting in the face of British opposition, rather than crumbling.
It said: “It is astonishing that the EU, which is often divided, is coming together when it comes to Brexit.
“Again and again, it is stressed that any attempt by London to drive a wedge into the rest of the community will be doomed to failure. So far the Union seems strong – unlike the British.
“While May fights for political survival, a deep divide is ripping through Parliament and the Conservatives are at odds about how hard or soft Brexit should be.”
It comes after a week of negotiations between Britain and the EU as both sides attempt to thrash out a deal.
